Harimaze, Part I

Harimaze are prints having several images intended to be cut apart.  Sometimes the images on a single sheet are totally unrelated and may even be designed by different artists.  The series listed as 200 and 216 in Kuniyoshi by Basil William Robinson (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1961) and print S95f.3 in Kuniyoshi: The Warrior-Prints by Basil William Robinson (Cornell University Press, Ithaca, NY, 1982 are Harimaze.  A Modern Style Set of the Provinces in Edo Brocade (Kôto nishiki imayô kuni-zukushi) may also be considered harimaze.  I am grateful to Ward Pieters for assisting with this section.
