Brother Pictures - A Select Comparison of Warriors
(E-kyôdai mitate musha awase)
c. 1834
In
this series, one or two large figures are compared with historical and
legendary warriors, who are pictured in an inset. The series is unusual in that the title
cartouches are of different shapes. The
series is listed as number 91 in Kuniyoshi
by Basil William Robinson (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1961). The prints are each about 14 by 10 inches (36
by 25 centimeters), a size known as ôban.
