This series was originally published as a three volume picture book (ehon). The prints are about 6 1/3 by 8 3/4 inches (16 by 22 cm), a size known as hashi-bon.

The crest (mon) on the black robe is that of kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjr VIII. The preceding and following images also show the actor in an era when there were no copyrights or registered trademarks.
